America's political media is laser-focused on the state of Virginia Governor's race between former governor Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin.

Virginia, while a state that has trended blue in recent years - with President Biden winning it by 10 points last year - has now been officially declared by the nonpartisan Cook Political report as a toss up. And many Republicans anecdotally feel very confident that Glenn Youngkin can pull off a close win.

Yet this is a race that Terry McAuliffe ought to be easily winning given how Biden performed in the state in the last general election.

Instead he's flailing, with Democrats bringing everyone under the sun to campaign for him, from President Obama and Vice President Harris to President Biden himself.

Sadly for him, the biggest guns the Democrats can deploy are shooting him in the foot by reminding the average Virginian voter just how out of touch their economic and social policies truly are.

Many Republicans anecdotally feel very confident that Glenn Youngkin can pull off a close win against McAuliffe

And the problem for Democrats goes ways beyond the borders of the Old Dominion. Because in many ways Virginia has been a Petri dish of the very worst social and economic ramifications from Covid and of the extremism raging in our culture wars.

Going forward no matter how election night plays out, this campaign has already shown just how much damage the first year of the Biden administration has done to the good will of working class, blue-collar Americans.

With diabolical timing for the Democrats, Virginia is the scene of one the biggest stories in the country right now. Specifically the scandal of how the Loudoun County Superintendent Scott Ziegler and the school board covered up a report that a male student in a skirt assaulted a female student in a girls' bathroom - while the board was considering a controversial transgender rule.

An email last week revealed Ziegler had notified the board about the assault a month before he publicly declared he had no record of bathroom assaults.

Prosecutors have confirmed that the same man accused in the May incident also is accused of another sexual assault in October at another school.

The father of the alleged victim was called a 'domestic terrorist' for showing up at a shoolboard meeting justifiably angry and despondent and unceremoniously dragged out as if HE was the criminal.

The more details that emerge about this story, the more disgusted I feel about just how far the insanity of the culture wars has taken us and just how dangerous it is for Democrats to pretend all these issues are somehow fringe and that if you care about them you are unhinged or ignorant.

Yesterday, there was a walkout of students from the school where the assault took place in protest of their right to be protected at school and not have allegations of, God forbid, other sexual assaults dismissed because of a politically correct school board.

After more than 18 months of teachers unions doing anything and everything under the sun to avoid returning to work because of Covid and now covering up an alleged sexual assault of a student in a girls bathroom, by a 'boy in a skirt', it has exposed just how tone deaf and quite frankly radical even mainstream Democrats have become. And parents in Loudoun County are having none of it, pushing back and rightly calling President Obama tone deaf for their concerns about their kids being safe at schools.

It's why I believe, apart from the catastrophic economy and inflation, this battleground is where Republicans are going to rack up win after win moving forward.

Republicans know it and President Trump knows it. The more that hot-button culture war issues are dismissed, judged and scoffed at by elite Democrats the more powerful the Right becomes.

The health, happiness and safety of your child is not an issue that is political, it is a normal human concern. Why President Biden and his surrogates are doubling down on flagrantly unpopular wokery rather than running and governing by the policies that got them elected is bizarre and perverse.

Democrats dismiss the bubbling volcano of the culture wars and the concerns of average Americans at their own peril.

And it's part of a pattern that is adding up to disaster for the Democrats, week by week.

Like gaslighting us on the crime figures in major cities. Like telling voters 'speech is violence but violence isn't'. Like telling us immigration is under control when record numbers of migrants flooding illegally on the border show daily that isn't.

The father of the alleged victim was called a 'domestic terrorist' for showing up at a shoolboard meeting justifiably angry and despondent and unceremoniously dragged out as if HE was the criminal. Scott Smith, the victim's father, was pictured with a bloody mouth, being dragged out of a school board meeting on June 22 - a month after the attack - after listening to school officials say no one had been sexually assaulted in the bathrooms when that's what his daughter had reported the previous month

Like floating the idea of compulsory covid vaccines for young children despite infection numbers plummeting in Florida, the state where the Governor has resisted most robustly mask and vaccine mandates.

They all take their toll.

It may be sexier, more attention grabbing and celebrated in elite media circles to put AOC on the cover of Vanity Fair to wax about how everything conceivable in a modern society is a right and should be free.

But it all chips away at the support of working class Americans who are now wondering if the Democratic party is for anyone outside people living on the liberal coasts making more than $150,000 year.

The only other cards the Democrats seem to have to play is to bribe us with trillions of dollars worth of historic spending that will beggar our children and grandchildren while claiming it will be 'free and cost nothing' which must be one of the most deluded and stupid talking points I have heard in my entire lifetime.

Or to attempt to smear every Republican in the country with the mud of insurrection with their obsessive focus on the riots of January 6.

None of it - and I mean absolutely none of it - is a winning strategy.

Who exactly the hell is President Biden listening to these days in the White House?

I can only assume that it's the wokest, most progressive members of his staff and that he's on some kind of kamikaze mission to be remembered as the progressive modern president, with the most lost potential and the most disastrous leadership.
